The best times I remember when I was growing up were times outdoors. Being ‘in nature’ was both fascinating and peaceful for me.
I attended Old Dominion University and then spent several years doing “indoor” work. First as a veterinary laboratory tech at Yale University, then for a contractor doing computer work on a navel vessel. These were great jobs, but my passion was still to find a way to express my creative side.

My Journey

Eight years ago I approached Tom Underhill, owner of Coastal Landscapes and Nursery here in Virginia Beach. He agreed to take me on as an apprentice and for the next two and a half years I worked both at the nursery and as a member of his installation crew.
This was a wonderful education that helped me learn how to visualize plants and tree placement not just at the time of planting, but for years into the future. This became the foundation of my philosophy that your landscape should offer visual beauty for the entire year and not just the Spring.
